Message from Sheriff Bill Rasco

The Mission of the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department is to protect and serve the citizens of our county.  We strive to eradicate criminal activity and conditions that have a detrimental impact upon public safety.  We believe all citizens should be treated with respect and dignity.  We will work in an environment based on honesty, trust and mutual respect for fellow employees and the citizens we serve.

This mission statement was made in January of 2008 and it still holds true today.  As the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the county, it is a privilege and honor to serve the citizens of this county.  I will never take lightly the trust that you have put in me to keep this county safe for all citizens.  It is the goal of the Command Staff and Employees of the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department to always conduct themselves in a way that would make you proud of your department and your county.  We are here to serve you and keep you safe.  We take our job very seriously and have a strong desire to make the Sheriff's Department and DeSoto County the very best it can be so that the citizens can be proud of where they live and work.  We will always strive to make things better for each and every citizen in this county.  Together, we can make DeSoto County the most desirable place to live and work in Mississippi.

DeSoto County to Enhance Reserve Deputy Program

In an effort to enhance the Reserve Deputy Program of the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Bill Rasco announced that applications will be accepted during the entire month of October.  Currently, there is a core group of Reserve Deputies, who are commissioned by Sheriff Rasco, providing invaluable assistance on a daily basis in support of full-time Deputies in the performance of their duties.  Assignments include, but are not limited to the handling of emergency calls, rendering aid, making arrests and providing security at special events, thus, increasing the security and protection provided to the citizens of DeSoto County, as well as to our visitors, with little or no cost to the taxpayer.  Reserve Deputies volunteer their time and service without remuneration.

Reserve Deputies will work under the command of a Reserve Coordinator, who will be a full-time Deputy appointed by Sheriff Rasco to supervise and coordinate the activities of the Reserve Deputy Program.

The Reserve Deputy Program consists of men and women volunteers from all walks of life, who offer their personal time and talents with one goal in mind, to make DeSoto County a safer place to live.  Following graduation from the Reserve Academy, the Reserve Deputy will be assigned to a Division of the Sheriff’s Department.  With their help, the Sheriff’s Department will be in a better position “To Protect and Serve” the citizens of DeSoto County.
