Commander Alan Thompson currently manages the Criminal Investigation Division of the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department. The division includes the Criminal Investigation Unit, Automated Fingerprint Identification Unit or "AFIS", Crime Scene Unit, Property-Evidence Unit and the Sex Offender Registration Unit.
Commander Thompson is a 30 year veteran with the Mississippi Highway Patrol. He served 17 of those years assigned to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation of which 5 of those years he served as Captain of the North Region of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. He also earned a Bachelor's Degree from Delta State University. Commander Thompson joined the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department in July, 2009.

Mission Statement
The Criminal Investigation Division is dedicated to providing quality service to the citizens of DeSoto County through successful investigations and follow ups of specific criminal actions which occur within the jurisdiction of the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department. These crimes are investigated in an expeditious manner with the objective of identifying, apprehending and prosecuting persons responsible for the commission of specific criminal acts.
